A Forensic Psychologist provides psychological services at The Barbados Prison Service. The psychologist provides mental health programs to inmates who are serving sentences or being held on remand. Mental health services include individual and group counseling (focusing most often on anxiety, depression, bereavement, adjustment and personality disorders) court ordered psychological assessments and vocational and treatment planning. In addition, psychological interventions also address the factors that place persons at risk of re-offending, such as difficulty with anger management and conflict resolution, substance abuse and addiction disorders, and familial conflicts. The psychologist is also involved in the monitoring and administration of the Thinking and Living Skills program which is offered to inmates who are being prepared specifically for release. This program is focusing on equipping offenders with improved cognitive skills, which have been identified as one of the most important factors in the management of life challenges.
